Hwan Soo couldnât believe that he heard the photographer offer her a job because of the pictures she took when they were just playing around. He wasnât lying when he told her he thought her pictures were good, and when she had the professional camera in her hand instead of her phone, she looked like a natural-born artist.
They climbed back into his van and when he looked over at her, there was a smile he had never seen before on her face. Sure, he had seen her smile before, but this one held something behind it that was both positive and nervously questioning.
âIs your dream to be a photographer?â he blurted out. Her smile quickly disappeared as she looked over at him with eyes wide, the depths of green and gold filling him with a fear that he might make her angry again. But he still couldnât stop himself from saying, âì¬ì§ìê°? From what Iâve seen today and even that nightâ¦â He didnât know where he was going with that statement, but he knew he probably shouldnât bring that night up. Clearing his throat, he chose to stop talking.
âë¤,â she responded calmly, her eyes never looking away from him.
âì¤ë§â¦I didnât think you would give that up so easily.â He leaned back in his seat continuing to face her, and once again he saw that smile reappear on her face. And he couldnât stop himself from asking, âWhy did you tell me?â
âItâs not a secret.â
âSeemed like one yesterday when I tried to ask,â he argued back.
âI donât see it as a dream anymore. It was a thing I liked to do. I knew it wouldnât take me far, and I faced the facts. I went to school for something I knew would get me a decent job so I could live comfortably.â She leaned back in her seat, turning her gaze to the window.
âYou just had a highly respected Korean photographer not only tell you that youâre good, he offered you a job and had you work with him today. I would say you have the potential to make it a career.â He was proud of her. Genuinely proud.
âHwan So-ì¨, Iâm not sure how it works in your world but in mine itâs simple. Donât follow dreams, follow money,â she said darkly.
âThat canât be what you really feel?â He reached out grab her hand from the armrest but she pulled it away and faced him again. Her eyes were no longer sparkling with excitement but with pools of water threatening to fall onto her cheeks.
âItâs how I was raised.â She shrugged.
The conversation died after that. He didnât want to start an argument, and he knew that the way he was raised was very different from her, but he felt guilty that he had the luxury of choosing what he wanted to do. All because he was the second son in a well-off family. He wanted her to follow her dreams. Sheâd helped him continue following his.
âíì¥ë, can you drop me off at Valâs apartment before you guys go to your next shoot?â she asked his manager.
